cock-a-doodle-doo

This is a scene recreated in memory of a home scene. Duh, nostalgia! We had, back at home, a hen who never used to come back to its shelter. Instead, a nearby rubber tree was her favourite hang out. Artsomniac used to wonder how the hen could sleep on top of a tree!!

Here, the lovely wooden toys were gifts
artsomniac bought for her lovely niece in chennai, but eventually forgot to pack in her hurry. Sigh sigh! such a lousy aunt! The base of the tree is a bottle, to get the bottle in this form, buy jute thread and braid them and wind them on the bottle. Mix red thread for special effects. In artsomniac's case, she ran out of jute, so used the red to cover up. It turned out well. Art by accident. Ha! Twig is any twig. But find a nice shape. There, country scene from Kerala. Excuse the gentle man meditating under the tree. Artsomniac is quite fond of him, and by now you have understood that he is her favourite prop which she puts in all possible frames :-) The sneak preview of the mural buddha is her unfinished work! Ignore that till the next century when she finish it!

Leaves of Love Table Top Calender

The leaves of love calender was made in January, but posting it now. It is made out of ordinary A4 size paper handpainted and cut into smaller size. Calender and pictures of leaves are handpainted. The calender sheets are then mounted on a cardboard piece, folded so as to work as a table top calender. Instead of the spiral binding, wool is used to keep them together which adds on to the handmade effect.
The calender now rests on a different table :-)

My study table

There is no better way to tell someone that you want to be there every single day. Handcrafted with love!

Dragonfly days

Artsomniac went to take the picture of the dragonfly she did for annie as part of an earlier glass painting/bottle painting madness series. Annie at first refused to take her picture, but let her take the picture of the bottle. Sad, artsomniac has not met even one dragon fly since she landed in the Software Heaven. Mallu land had lots of them.

Anni has tabla in her room, you see! Ustad Annie Hussain!!!!

tree of life

Artsomniac went out yesterday and treated herself with a new set of water colors. She is so much in love with colorama colors. A welcome change from camel.

One of the first attempts in water colour... Miles to go before it becomes neat and perfect...howeva...She liked working with water colors.

This picture is done on a sheet of printed paper teared from an old magazine. Old magazines have super fine craft paper, you know.. And you should never really mind some bits of writing underneath the art work. After all, if you feel that the magazine is a pure waste of trees, this is one best way of recycling...paint a tree on it and give it to a friend...Artsomniac loved the experience of doing it last night...

mermaid bottle

Posting pictures of the mermaid bottle, the inspiration for the 'metabottle' in the writing board. The lemon smirnoff bottle was a giveaway from medusa, sometime last year. Inspiration for the mermaid idea was the unique twisted shape of the bottle...unlike the regular smirnoff bottles. Glass Paints and black glass liner were used. Sketching was free hand. Filled blue colour and water inside the bottle to give it a better effect.

purple wave shrug/muff

I have been working on this purple wave shrug/muff for the last two days. Today, it is complete. This muff can be doubled as a shrug as well; a weird shrug for that matter. Pretty, anyways.
Raw materials: 1) The wool material is leftover blanket piece after ria made a shawl from it. 2) purple buttons: general bazaar, button shop, rs 4 each. 3) purple wool, hobby shop, general bazaar.
Method: Ripped both sides of the cloth to get the effect. Did the design in running stitch, the wave design came as a free hand one; placed buttons in 10 different places.
Elika, my knit master was happy to model for me. Thanks eliboo!

recycled writing board

Artsomniac has collected all the discards which came from the cable work in the uni. After the coffee table post and the coir stool post, here comes the final cable work discard material reworked. A writing board. This simple sketch is a montage of artsomniac's life.

What is life without a recharge? That too, student life = chotaa recharge.

There was a hole in the board when artsomniac found it. Must be designed to suit cable packaging requirements. However, a black sunflower found its way there. The black is Indian Ink with brush.

Train of thoughts....Train no 2724, A P Express which carries bundles of artsomniac's dreams...

Books, which she currently refers to for fun and for research... Tempara and Indian Ink with brush.

Artwork about a previous artwork. Must call this mermaid on a bottle, 'metabottle' or something like that :-) there! artsomniac just dispersed her literature student wisdom!!!!

Finally, a beautified, exaggerated eyed, retro haired, half of a self portrait. She does not think that this looks like her, other than for the stub of a nose part!!!

however, artsomniac really enjoyed doing this today....
